NEWSLETTER - JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2012

 

Happy new Year everyone, the weather is certainly better than last year giving everyone a bit of extra earning power as we enter what will probably be another difficult year.  Still the good news is that we have started the year picking up a 112 plot site for Redrow at Newton Abbot.  That site was on the back of the good work at Wellington which we talked about in the December newsletter.  Devonshire Homes have told us that they intend to build 25 plots in Tiverton this year; we can thank the two Gary's (Curwen & Smalldon) who are ably assisted by Dan Furzer for the good work they have continued to produce over the past year.  With the site at Langdon, Dawlish for Interserve about to go into full swing we have netted a million pounds of work at the start of the year.  If the Developers continue building we have enough work to keep everyone going in 2012.  I know that no one will be getting any richer, but we have to accept that for the immediate future, this is what it is and accept we are in difficlut times.  We can be sure that as usual construction will bear the brunt of the so called austerity measures.

We have finished an extension on Bestways in Marsh Barton for a Northern Company called PDR Construction.  They were so pleased with the quality of the work they have told us that they want to use us for all their work in the South West.  Work was done by Lee Tarling, Rob Davey & Jordan Simmonds.  Jordan is receiving good training from his mentors.

ACCIDENTS: None reported.  Remember that it is your duty to report all accidents no matter how trivial they may seem.

DON'T WALK PAST: Always worth reiterating that if you see anything that you consider to be dangerous, or unsafe, please report it at once to your supervisor or site manager.  Don't walk past when you could prevent an accident or even safe a life.

INSURANCE: Still a few of you who would rather pay Karline prices than make a considerable saving arranging your own cover; it only takes one telephone call.  Call Oval on 01392 494499 tell them you are a bricklayer working for Karline Construction and require Public Liability Insurance and they will do the rest.
